In David's Words

"In 1974, after thirteen years of continuous professional acting, I sent a sit-com script to the ABC, Crawfords, Grundys and Cash-Harmon. I received no reply from Grundys, a seven page response from Crawfords, telling me how to turn it into a Division 4 episode, a tree line answer from the ABC telling me they didn't understand my script, and a telegram from Cash-Harmon offering me a job.

For the next eight years I worked as a staff writer for Cash-Harmon, and then the Grundy Organization. In 1982, I decided to go freelance (which is a polite way of saying that Grundys sacked me). Since then, I have written for most Australian series, and was fortunate enough to win an AWGIE award in 1987 for the mini-series ‘The Challenge’. Fourteen years later, I picked up another AWGIE award for the childrens series ‘Horace and Tina’. My work alternates between adult drama, and childrens series. The adult drama pays the bills, and the childrens series satisfies my deep love of science fiction and fantasy.

Hobbies: Writing stuff I don't get paid for.
Dislikes: Not getting paid for stuff I like to write".
