Although short lived; I have very fond memories of the Olderfleet building in Collins Street. My duties revolved within and around the Roneo Room. Oh dear; was it hectic! Marjorie Keen and Lindsay Parker encouraged me to join Crawfords in October 1970. I was fascinated by the early episodes of Homicide so much so that I wanted to be part of the action. Laying out floor plans and interacting with the team was exciting. Smokes and all!
Delivering memos to the various writers via so many cubicles was vibrant. I recall Edward Hepple ("You're doing a great job Peter") spurred me on. Nigel Lovell and Alwyn Kurts were frequent visitors to my work ethic.
While checking locations around Melbourne, I became lost. But don't despair as I had the Crawford Olderfleet Ph. number. Here-here!
I maintain that the Homicide episode "George" script by Jose Luis Bayonas was unique as it delved into the complex world of the mental health system. Many a budding performer owes "Crawford Productions" so much. With the foresight of Garry (Sam) Hardman the heritage and courage of Hector and Dorothy Crawford lives on. I have often been asked, "What was your most memorable job"? A stint at Crawfords Productions! P.S. My late father (Joseph Joe Hannigan) was stationed at the Olderfeet with the A.B.C. news division in 1947. 3AR/3LO. It runs in the family!
